Possum Cloak Project

Possum Cloak ProjectThe Batemans Bay Campus of the University of Wollongong was lucky enough to receive a Community Engagement Grant to work with the local Aboriginal Community on a Possum Cloak project.

The cloak has been decorated with local stories and symbols by community, led by Aunty Loretta Parsley in creative workshops. The teaching resources for Kindergarten to TAFE/University level students are based on the local history, culture and use of the possum cloak, and were developed in partnership with the University and local Elders.

The University also funded the construction of a glass cabinet to display the decorated cloak in the foyer of the Campus at Hanging Rock. Additionally educational resources have been developed into a kit that can be loaned out to local schools to further the education of students in the cultural practice and history of possum cloaks.

Please come into the University Campus to view the Cloak on display.
