Save the Planet!
Every day various lights and pieces of equipment are left on around the Campus. This is using up a lot of unnecessary electricity. You can do your little bit to use less. It's not hard - it just requires a small effort on your part to make a big difference.
Here's how you do it:
Computer Usage
Every time you have finished using a computer in the Lab and the Study Room, do the following:
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Shutdown
3. Check that it says Shut down (or Install updates and shut down) in the box
4. Click Ok
5. Switch off the power button on the monitor
Wow! That was easy! To turn it back on you:
1. Turn on the monitor on the power button (it goes orange or green when it is on)
2. If there is nothing on the screen, then the computer is off so turn on the power at the power button on the computer (next to the big "Dell"). It also goes green when it is turned on.
4. Log on as usual
Lights
When you are the last to leave a room - turn off the lights! If you are leaving the building at night - turn off lights as you go - there will be emergency lights left on so you won't be left in the dark.
Air conditioners
Again - if you are last to leave, turn off air conditioners, heaters and fans. Check that the air conditioner has actually switched off - you need to point the remote directly at the air conditioner unit and listen for a beep and the light in front will go red.
You can do it! And just imagine how good you will feel - saving green house gases and unnecessary electricity use.
Thanks for your cooperation!
